Solidarity with Fijian aviation workers – this Friday 12th, Wellington

Call out for solidarity with Fijian aviation workers – locked out since 16 December

Wellington protest – Friday 12 January, 12 noon

International support is mobilising for 250 Fijian aviation ground handling workers who have been locked out since 16 December by Fiji Government-owned Air Terminal Services.

The workers – baggage handlers, check-in staff, engineers and caterers – are 49% owners of the company through an Employees’ Trust, and attended a meeting over mismanagement and appalling conditions at the company, including sexual harassment and staff driven into poverty because of an 11-year pay freeze.

After the workers returned from the shareholders’ meeting on 16th December they were locked out.

International support is mounting for the workers and their union, the Federated Airline Staff Association (FASA), and their national representatives the Fiji Trade Union Congress, including support from the International Transport Workers Federation, the TWU Australia, LabourStart, and E tū New Zealand.

Join a protest outside the Fiji High Commission in Wellington this Friday, ahead of a march in Nadi on Saturday, to add your support for the workers. More actions will follow.
